The wrong prince, nail art, and astrology
With the big day nearing for Prince William and Kate Middleton, the internet is abuzz with royal wedding stories. As a confessed wedding obsessive, I'll be keeping up with what's being talked about. This week's round-up includes Kate marrying the wrong man, royal nail art, astrological warnings and squashing bad manners.
Has Kate, sorry Catherine, changed her mind and made plans to marry someone else?
The Telegraph says the Chinese manufacturing company Guandong Enterprises has supposedly designed a royal mix-up of a souvenir - a mug featuring the future king and queen, Kate Middleton and... Prince Harry?
"Beaming out from the side of this particular mug designed to celebrate the forthcoming royal nuptials are bride-to-be Kate Middleton - and her soon to be brother-in-law, Prince Harry. Photographs of the pair are featured side-by-side, adorned with suitably royal flourishes and scrolls depicting their names. But few could fail to spot that the smartly dressed young man named "Will" is actually his red-headed brother. On the back, an inscription reads: 'The fairytale romantic union of all the centuries. 29th April 2011.'"
Judging by the happy couple's recent public appearances, it seems like this silly souvenir has got it all wrong.
"The fact that the company is apparently registered in Britain may lead some to suspect it is all an elaborate spoof."
Luckily most of the other souvenir designers have got the facts straight, and it will be Kate and William who say "I do" at the altar in Westminster abbey.
In recent weeks everything from fine china to sick bags have been available for purchase, but this week royal enthusiasts in Britain can get their hands on royal wedding nail decals (fake nails) featuring a miniature version of the couple's engagement photo, says the beauty blog Beautylish.
"Beauties, are you prepared for the upcoming Royal Wedding? Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to tie the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29th, and souvenir shops across London are preparing for the big day. The next big craze in the Will/Kate fairytale? Nail decals! Yes, now you can join the English celebration - even on your fingertips."
Though it seems as though a few souvenirs on the market may quite literally be getting out of hand, some royal watchers insist on taking a closer look at the future newlyweds' love life.
Could Prince William and the future Princess Catherine be "destined to have a rocky marriage", asks the love and relationships website YourTango.
"Should 'Waitie Katie' and her prince have waited a few more months and had a summer wedding? That's what one astrologist believes, after having drawn up Prince William and Kate Middleton's marriage birthchart. Reportedly, on 29 April 2011, the day planned for their royal wedding, 'nearly all of the planets are in disharmonious positions, which could mean a married life filled with challenges and misunderstandings,' claims Astrology Detective."
One assumes the horoscope writers of the British press will be more sympathetic.
