Girl, seven, killed in road crash

A seven-year-old girl has died and a woman was seriously injured after a two-car crash on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road in south Wales.

Gwent Police said their Peugeot was in collision with a Mercedes, in which two people suffered minor injuries.

The crash happened eastbound between Brynmawr, Blaenau Gwent and Gilwern, Monmouthshire at around 1100 BST.

All four were taken to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, where the girl was pronounced dead.

The road is closed in both directions between Gilwern and Conoco roundabout while emergency services attend.

Heavy traffic is reported in both directions.
